Christian & alchemical symbolism in HEMA

This gallery contains images that shows some of the connections between the Art of Combat and Alchemy, Christianity and Astrology.

The Sun symbolizes death and resurrection. The Rooster, the first little creature to awake at dawn, is therefore tightly connected to the Sun.

The Lion and the Griffin, along with the Ox, the Eagle and the Unicorn are common symbols for the evangelists, Virgin Mary and Christ.
Combining the Eagle and the Lion into a Winged Lion or a Griffin creates a powerful symbol which combines strength with agility, sharpness, good vision and more associated capabilities.
