Throwing spears, javelin, pilum

Here are a few curious images I have come across. It appears as if some throwing spears may have been fletched.
In some cases the throwing spears may be interpreted as Death bringing an arrow to a victim, rather than Death actually throwing a spear. However, in other cases, as in the siege paintings, it would appear as if fletched spears have been used occassionally.

So, this is esentially just a larger version of an arrow. It does make sense that throwing spears would have that, since they fly through the air much better with that. I wonder if you used them to fight in close-combat as well.

I always wondered about the insanely oversized "arrowheads" that are found in large amounts in norse archaeology. Seems like a very similar arrow that's used for the Atl Atl.
